what nationality are you?

so following the Trinidad & Tobago problem...i made a list of countries that have iffy nationalities. here goes...

Burkina Faso - Burkinabe (singular and plural)

Lesotho - Mosotho (singular), Basotho (plural)

Luxembourg - Luxembourger(s)

Mali - Malian(s)

Montenegro - Montenegrin(s)

Monaco - Monegasque(s) or Monacan(s)

Qatar - Qatari(s)

San Marino - Sammarinese (singular and plural)

Seychelles - Seychellois (singular and plural)

i'm sure there are many more african countries that i don't know about...not to mention all those little islands like the guinea's and all.

but hey...imagine this...

me: hi...my name is feefs and i'm from malaysia. that makes me a malaysian.

random guy: hi...my name is silver lightning and i'm from burkina faso. that makes me a burkinabe.

just sounds wrong...sort of like a cuss word in hokkien no?

me: hi...what nationality are you?
random guy: i'm malian.
me: what? you're an alien?

me: hi...what nationality are you?
random guy: i'm a luxembourger.
me: you would like some burgers?

ok...i'm becoming lame...time to continue with work....

trinidad & tobagans?

i've always wondered what's the nationality of people from Trinidad & Tobago. with malaysia its pretty easy. we're malaysians. with singapore...they're singaporeans. so what are the people from Trinidad & Tobago called? trinidad & tobagans? the answer is.....

Country: Trinidad & Tobago

Nationality:
- noun: Trinidadian(s), Tobagonian(s)

there's a whole lot more that i shall attempt to find out another day.

the departed

so finally the departed is making its way to our screens. for those who prefer the comforts of your home tv...the dvd is available at any pirated dvd store. and they claim that it is "clear copy". anyway...went to watch it with my brother earlier today. i'm still wondering whether it would've been better for me to watch the hong kong version before i watch the hollywood version but its too late now. it is a good movie...but not a great movie though. and i'm sure filem negara had a blast trying to cut out all the foul language...they even missed a few and even so...the ones that they did manage to catch were not edited well.

also watch the black dahlia. a tad slow and messy. the trailer was really misleading though. but then again...all trailers are misleading. it had so much potential...oh well.

1 word movie reviews:

the departed: engaging
the black dahlia: muddled
miami vice: disastrous
the prestige: perfect

dradle dradle dradle

i forgot to mention that the previous post was from a sign that i stumbled across at 1 utama. i guess some people really don't know how to spell...and in this case...i think spelling should be the least of their worries. reading might be their problem. "renonavation"? even saying it out loud sounds completely absurd.

the food might look good but the menu's definitely need some work. did someone else take away your recipe?

is gerenti even a word? when i read that i was a bit lost for a moment. took me awhile to register what they actually meant. but hey....looked it up in kamus dewan and whaddaya know...it does exist. why can't they use "jaminan"? just had to use a malay word that is derived from english even though it sounds really stupid. then again...the entire sentence doesn't make sense regardless of language. if DBP gets a hold of this will they fine these buggers for wrong usage of the malay language?

it's 7am and i just finished a tonne of work. it's supposed to be the holidays but something or rather will surface. anyway...for some reason my brother has managed to stick the dradle song from southpark in my head.

i have a litle dradle

i made it out of clay

and when its dry and ready

with dradle i shall play

the prestige

so i went to watch the prestige today. finally managed to find a movie to use my complimentary warner bros./fox passes on. i've never had trouble finding something to watch...but nowadays...eesh...just bengang with all the crap movies that are playing at our local cinemas. anyway...i'm not going to post any spoilers in here. but let me just say its one movie that needs a whole lot of attention. phase out for awhile and you might get lost along the way. it is a really good movie...in my opinion that is. i'll probably write about it later one when most people have seen it.

went for supper with my bros...my dad and a couple of friends after the movie. stumbled upon a photo album with old school pictures of black and white variety...and also the slightly modern coloured but almost sepia like variety.

the football looks huge next to my two brothers.

i was a fat ugly kid with motorcycle helmet hair. but i like this picture...we look happy :P

here's one of my brothers and i. i love this picture. we were holding hands...hm :P no recollection of the red car though.

as i grew older...i became more of a nerd. check out the ultra cool nerd display behind me :)

this picture is 56 years old. that's my dad in the middle...he was 2. this is probably the oldest picture we have in the house. and that's what family portraits looked like back in those days. no fancy suits and make up.

this looks like it belongs in a history book. those kids look really young...but my dad is in that picture and he was 18. that was probably the kampung life. everyone was united and they just had fun all day.

random

discovered this treasure of a place a couple of days ago. funny thing is i've drove past this place many times but never realized what it actually was. it's board game haven. i'm a sucker for board games so i find myself particularly drawn to this establishment. spent 3 hours learning how to play all sorts of different games. it's pretty quiet...i guess there aren't many board game freaks like me out there. but it is a nice place to hang. decently priced food...not sure whether its good food but at least its decently priced. there is a table charge though...but i guess its a fair trade for the use of their board games.

went there with my brothers...which explains the random picture. its funny how people usually get stunned when they find out that i hang with my brothers...sometimes more than i hang with my friends. we watch movies...play board games...attend nerd quizzes...play cards...yum cha. i realize that it is asian culture that doesn't promote close relationships with siblings. but i'll get into that some other time.

found this stuck to a pillar outside atria. i'm not sure whether it's readable (if there even is such a word). anyway...the white A4 paper is a flyer for a money lender and right in the middle of it is another sticker promoting a completely different money lender. in some countries you'd be shot for doing that...hehe :P the guy in red really doesn't like the competition. i guess if i was in need of money and i stumbled upon something like that i would call the guy with the white flyer just because he was there first and i feel sorry for him. don't want to give the guy in red the satisfaction of succeeding in stealing people's customers.

fun at the fair

first of all...the name fine tv is just bad. being fine is not as good as being good or great so i guess this station would be mediocre at its best. 20 channels for RM38...still not worth it. but then again...with a channel like "fuiyoo" i might just change my mind :P

remember my recent post on fines for wrong usage of B.M...does this qualify? ayat tergantung or something of that sort. the english cannot make it either. so i went to the euro fun park next to 1 utama over the weekend. i have a thing for carnivals. didn't sit on any of the rides though...at least not on this visit. and the horror house was just soooo tempting. it said "you scared...don't come in". so i wanted to go in but no one else wanted to...some were scared...some can't be bothered. and guess what...two 6 year old girls just went straight in after we decided to give it a skip. come on guys...where are your balls?

whose line is it anyway

undeniably my favourite comedy tv show. i finally managed to move all my whose line videos into my pc so i have a lot of catching up to do. whose line never ceases to make me laugh. sometimes i laugh so hard and loud that i'm afraid i might wake everyone else up. i shit you not.

anyway...met 2 very nice french guys today. i've been told that the french are very arrogant people...but today i was pleasantly surprised. had a 3 hour meeting with them @ delicious ms.read at bangsar village. very nice restaurant. anyway...i could hardly understand half the things that they were saying because of their strong accent. still doesn't beat the british accent...yummy :P

since i left and came back from singapore i've lost 30k on hsx. i can see red all over the place. need to find a way to make more money. anyway...go to hsx.com and you'll understand :)

carl's jr. = multiple orgasms

i've been told that i'm a fast food junkie. yes...i admit i am but unfortunately...my favourite fast food chain is not available in malaysia. i would have to travel to singapore to get my carl's jr. fix. and everytime i'm there you'd be able to find me at carl's jr. without fail. i'd order a western bacon burger which i probably can't finish cause their burgers are twice as huge as those that you get at mcd's and double the price as well. i guess the price is justified in that sense. but yum yum yum....there's something about a carl's jr. burger that just gets me everytime.

is this for real? we have our very own malaysian ghostbusters. wow...brings back memories. but still...its awfully stupid don't ya think. what's the purpose of a high tech sound detector? yes...a high tech sound detector that can detect sounds from kilometers away. so ghosts...beware...this guy can find you...don't make a sound. stop speaking to each other...don't chew with your mouth open...and hover quietly now. and since they are now studying your sex life...i suggest you guys make sex a silent activity...either that or resort to celibacy. so is sex better in the afterlife?

because we put a fresh?

I wonder if you know
How they live in Toyko
If you see me then you mean it
Then you know you have to go
Fast and furious (Tick, Tick, Tick)
Fast and furious (Tick, Tick, Tick)

I see many many diamonds danglin
Back for the money keep stranglin
Hate me, fry me, bake me, try me
All the above cuz you can't get in
I don't want to put up with them
Because we put a fresh ....
Make you, shake you, .... (Thank you!)
Haters ..................

Should see me in the parking lot
7-11 is the spot
Mice with wings and shiny things
And lions, tigers, bears, Oh my ride
We're furious and fast
Super sonic like JJ Phat
An' we rock cuz the wheels are fly
Can't be doubt with a baseball bat

It's gotta be the shoes
Gotta be the furs
That's why ladies choose me
All up in the news
Cuz we so cute
That's why we so huge
Not a Chinaman cuz I ain't from China man
I am Japan man

You see him come and go out of the black Benz SLR.
I wonder where he get's that kind of money?
Don't worry about it. Lets Go

this song is being overplayed on the radio. i was trying to figure out what the lyrics were and *tada*. the horror of it....completely makes no sense. "because we put a fresh"? apa erti tu? then there's the "can't be doubt with a baseball bat"....another line that was put in to rhyme with JJ Phat? and people still listen to it. i guess it's not about the lyrics nowadays.

bring back the funny facts:-

- one out of every three people can’t snap their fingers
- a cockroach breaks wind every 15 minutes (so do some humans)
- only 3% of mammals are monogamous (haha...good excuse to use when you're caught cheating)
- average number of times a man will ejaculate in his lifetime: 7,200 (wow..that's everyday for 19 years)
- average speed of male ejaculation: 28 miles per hour (faster than the speed limit at residential areas)

does that mean the silly carnival is cancelled?

back to reality

russell peters was not disappointing...yet i wasn't spellbinded either...so i guess it was good. not many repeats but the auditorium was minus 10 degrees and i needed to pee real bad during the last 15 minutes. not a good combo.

shopping was disastrous...to the wallet that is. spent more than i planned but happy with my purchases. ate at my 2 favourite places...carl's jr. and tony romas. ooh...i heard tony romas is opening in sunway...that would be sooooo awesome.

this is the damaged that was caused...then again it doesn't look like much considering that there were 3 of us. ooh...i bought travel cluedo. i'm such a board game nerd. was contemplating taboo but since i've probably played all editions it's gonna be a waste of money. i can't seem to find scattergories (is that how its spelt?) anywhere.

and what's a post without making fun of some english. this sign can be found in every cubicle of the ladies restroom at Singapore customs. once again....customs isn't exactly the best place to make that sort of mistake.

was gone for the weekend and lost 40k on hsx. eesh....wasted. should have sold those stocks before i left.

http://www.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2006/10/5/nation/15635115&sec=nation

so "touch n go" in b.m would be "sentuh dan pergi"? doesn't have a nice ring to it. then again...the malay language never had a nice ring to it. somehow i think this campaign will backfire. b.m is such a formal language when used properly. i doubt it'll blend well on billboards and print ads or anywhere else for that matter...unless we go back to the 19th century.

ha ha ha :)

they were serious. 50 000 bikers? didn't they just catch 100 mat rempits last sunday on the kerinchi link? they are called "illegal street racers" for a reason. now they want to organize a carnival to celebrate the presence of "illegal street racers"? why not we hold a carnival to celebrate the gangsters and the liars and the wife beaters and the rapists and the murderers...we do want them to be more united as a society. and hey...they are voters too no? then we can set up a booth called "Politicking" where people do absolutely nothing but come up with stupid campaigns and policies.

gamble in the name of charity!!!

i was having a discussion with my dad about the article below and it got me to thinking....

my grandparents were subjected to an arranged marriage. seems like a long time ago that arranged marriages were the norm but it seems like its making a comeback....with a twist of course. nowadays it's more of business deal...part of the import and export industry. why are we going backwards and not forward?

my dad said "people spend most of their time falling in love before marriage and falling out of love after marriage". my grandparents were one of the lucky ones who actually benefited from an arranged marriage and they were happy. people who get married in the name of love sometimes suffer a worse fate. look at my parents....my dads been cheating on my mom even before they got married and has 4 children out of wedlock that we know about. who knows how many more there are out there? loyalty and honesty aren't exactly traits that my dad possesses when it comes to marriage. but i do believe that he thought and still thinks that he's doing the right thing and that he kept it a secret for so long for a reason. might not have been the best thing to do but i'm sure he felt it was at that time.

anyway...we discussed the whole idea of "settling"...which is what most people seem to be doing now. people always have an ideal...a prince charming...a sleeping beauty...a fairy tale ending. but what happens when time seems to be running out and the fairy tale ending seems like nothing more than just a fairy tale....a story that we've been programmed to believe. they settle for the next best thing. the idea of love is thrown out the window and what's left is just companionship. someone to just be there...someone to tend to the house...someone accommodating as they would put it. the search for love is called off and that's when things become pathetic and desperate.

some would say that time is running out and that its now or never. just grab the first willing candidate and be done with it. the whole fascination and obssession with marriage amazes me. and its the obssession that leads to desperation. it becomes a race to just fill up the empty spaces.

but hey...a 52 year old bachelor told me..."how would you know that they won't be happy?" i honestly won't know. so if mail order brides is what makes men happy...i guess it's not my place to discourage it.

medieval times

i understand that some would say that singaporean women are obssessed with aesthetics. they go for looks...sometimes even money...and that's just what i've been told. i'm pretty sure this doesn't just happen in singapore. malaysia is on the way to suffering the same fate.

in this particular article (go to http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2006/10/2/asia/15602319&sec=asia to read the whole thing)...this guy affirms that when he said “I’ve heard the girls look for handsome guys and will start looking at you 360 degrees. I don’t want to be in that situation.”

now...he goes on to say that the whole wife search started with a desire for someone to take care of his mother and himself. read the part that i highlighted. which is worse? women going after handsome men...or men going after women who are accommodating?
